Focused groundwater recharge in a tropical dryland: Empirical evidence from central, semi-arid Tanzania

چکیده
Little Kinyasungwe Catchment within the River Wami Basin of central, semi-arid Tanzania. Groundwater and its replenishment via recharge are critical to sustaining livelihoods poverty alleviation in tropical drylands yet processes by which groundwater is replenished remain inadequately observed resolved. Detailed observations examined from central Tanzania, where Makutapora Wellfield supplies freshwater rapidly growing, capital city Dodoma. The prominence focused ephemeral stream discharges shown from: (1) correlates more strongly with seasonal duration stage exceeding a threshold than rainfall; (2) hourly monitoring groundwater-levels shows that sustained groundwater-level rises, indicative recharge, correspond better pulses discharge intensive rainfall upstream wellfield recorded proximate piezometers; (3) stable isotope ratios O H indicate similar compositions streamflow; both have undergone evaporative enrichment linked (90th percentile) daily rainfall. This characterisation this dryland highlights potential resilience resources climate change amplifying precipitation extremes informs strategies augment supplying

Impacts of soil conservation on groundwater recharge in the semi-arid Loess Plateau, China
Soil conservation measures undertaken to address land degradation can alter the hydrologic cycle by changing partitioning of water fluxes at the land surface. While effects on runoff are well documented, impacts of soil conservation activities on fluxes to groundwater are poorly understood. The goal of this study was to examine fluxes to groundwater in a semi-arid area of China’s Loess Plateau ...

Groundwater level fluctuation forecasting Using Artificial Neural Network in Arid and Semi-Arid Environment
In arid and semi-arid environments, groundwater plays a significant role in the ecosystem. In the last decades, groundwater levels have decreased due to the increasing demand for water, weak irrigation management and soil damage. For the effective management of groundwater, it is important to model and predict fluctuations in groundwater levels. In this study, groundwater table in Kashan plain ...
متن کاملGroundwater Recharge Interface and Nitrate Discharge: Central Canterbury, New Zealand
Regional surveys of groundwater quality in Central Canterbury, from 1977 to the present, show widespread occurrence of nitrate contamination primarily from agricultural land use. Two reported analyses of these surveys, in 1984 and 2002, describe a general decrease of nitrate concentration with depth from the groundwater table to uncontaminated water at about 50-80 m. This high quality water is ...
